Stigma and discrimination
HIV/AIDS related stigma and discrimination is a serious threat to basic human rights and it compromises the right of HIV/AIDS-positives to lead a life in dignity. Furthermore, stigmatization and discrimination create barriers to the prevention of HIV/Aids. The problem is notably large in Uganda due to a hostile political climate combined with a moralising attitude in the population towards sexual relations. This severely inhibits the living conditions for the HIV/Aids positive who cannot  stand up for her/himself as one person. Furthermore, the lack of documentation of stigma and discrimination makes it difficult to combat it and address it in the political sphere.

The Project
Africa Contact will put forcus on the problem of Stigmatization and discrimination together with two Ugandan organizations Health Rights Action Group (HAG) and MIRUDA. The project will capacity build the two organizations to systematically document issues of stigma and discrimination. The results of the documentation process will be distributed to the relevant actors in Uganda. Moreover, they will be used in future projects as a foundation for concrete interventions against stigma and discrimination and intensive advocacy.

The project is called Systematic documentation of HIV/Aids related stigmatisation and discrimination in the district of Kibaale, Uganda. It is financed by the Project  Advise and training centre and runs from August 2011 to April 2012.
