Approximately 20,000 Saharawi citizens have been engaged in a mass
protest for over a month. Early Monday morning, the Moroccan Security
Forces took to violent action to disperse the camp.

The extent of the damage is not yet clear and the violence is ongoing.
Several deaths and numerous injuries are reported.

There are now violence and riots on the streets of El Aauin. Many
buildings and cars have been set on fire.

This demonstrated the UN’s failure to protect the victims of this conflict

Request that:
Ugent action is taken to prevent further casualties:

· Observers are sent to assess the situation.
· Firm representations are made to the Moroccan authorities to stop any
further violence
· Support for human rights monitoring to be included within the mandate
of MINURSO.
